Tarryl's Challenge

Read my open letter challenging Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann wants to talk fiscal responsibility?

As someone who ran a statewide organization for seven years, I know what it’s like to meet a payroll and a bottom line. I’ve voted for balanced budgets that included deep cuts – budgets that held taxes down for over 95% of Minnesotans.

And when Minnesota faced record deficits, I cut my own compensation and budget in the Minnesota Senate, because I believe in leading by example.

Today, I challenged Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to do the same. Read my open letter, then join my challenge to Bachmann by adding your name. We can win this race by working together and standing up for our values.

Dear Congresswoman Bachmann,

In 2008, when our nation faced the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, you increased your office budget and expenses on the taxpayer's dime.

You spend more taxpayer dollars on campaign-style mailings and radio ads than any Minnesota Member of Congress. You have more self-promoting media staff in your Congressional office than you have staff who work on legislation.

It's one thing to talk the talk when it comes to fiscal responsibility, but I've actually walked the walk. I'm challenging you – and all Members of Congress – to reduce your office expenses, cut your pay by 5% and keep it frozen until the budget is balanced.

It's time for you to start practicing what you preach.

Sincerely,

Tarryl Clark
